Blood-stained

  • Print
Yesterday I was part of a crowd,
Swept along en masse,
Each feeding the other with delusion,
Thinking we knew what was best,
Though thoughts are not for a crowd
Stirred up and incensed with demands
To see a good man die.

But the one who should have known better
Hopped from one foot to the other,
Calling for a towel and basin
To wash his hands – not our feet –
So the dead man’s blood is on us;
We’ll bear it with other sins,
Though it was meant to take them away.
