Autumn Goodbye

Hawthorn.JPG
Slipped away in the privacy of solitude
With no-one present for departure
While rose hips ripen and wild plums fall,
Blackberries lose their shine,
And holly prepares for the worst.
The moth settles down beside the spider’s web,
Mushrooms sprout from the damp forest floor
With decades of decay below
While two sparrows sold for a farthing
Put a head beneath a wing and weep silently
Tears flowing
In mourning for him who has gone
In the presence of the one always there
And alongside to the very end.
