Zebedee Remembers

Seldom do eagles the cliffs forsake

Guarding the hills of Galilee,

Leaving the mountains across the lake

To dreamers' fantasy.

Kingfishers perch in their plumed attire

Waiting to plunge in the tranquil sea

Captured by smoke of an early fire

Smouldering mystically.

Blithe are the cormorants, newly born -

Free to depart, they stay cheerfully.

Misty the skies of the breaking dawn

Our time for reverie.

Unknown and strange came that rabbi lone,

Wooing my sons from their nets and me.

Changed is the world since they left home -

Nostalgic memory.
