The Carollers

  • Print
Assembled from the continents
The angels arrive at upstairs Bishopscourt
Having called at downtown Bethlehem,
On winged flight through the decades.
Snipped open from bubble-wrap hibernation,
Then taken out, and lovingly lined up
To take their place around the side-board stable.

Soprano, alto, tenor, bass
Standing in choral silence;
Off duty and exhausted after overtime.
Vocal cords resting hoarse voices,
Leaving the carollers to take up the strain
And become twenty-first century angels
Delivering the good news today.

December 2011
