He'd come a long way to be there
Neither starting point nor destination,
The halfway house, a resting place 
Celebrating a milestone 
Not a day too soon
In a lifetime serving his generation
With expertise acquired and shared.
 
Hidden away in an underground bunker 
With companions of the way,
Those loved, and those lost,
Remembering the best
And preparing for what's ahead,
Urging him to carry on
Being who he's meant to be.
