Alpine Snowshoeing

Shoes compress the snow
With the clack of a rail-track
As skis compete for space
Yet the earth becomes mine
In the moment of my plantar contact.

Poles pierce the snow
With the creak of a door
As vibration adds exhilaration
And the earth’s energy becomes mine
In the moment of not being side-tracked.

Each step possesses the snow
Freshly crunched under foot
While the peaks endure
With beauty belonging to me
In the moment of their visual impact.
