Breakers' Yard

Scrap heap of barges
Assembled elsewhere
Then riding the waves
For a century of life,
Now left to die.
And rest in peace
On a seabed of earth
Clothed by the tide,
Playground for frogmen
Beach-combing leftovers.

Earth to earth,
Clay into mud,
Ashes to ashes,
Left there to rust.
