At His Appointing

How come we now to know the will of God,

Long known and practised as life's principle?

His choice made ours with an abandoned nod;

Gone selfish thoughts - divinely pleasurable.

Yet has it changed at this mean point of time,

Wrested from Him by sacerdotal power?

From conscience to the hierarchy sublime;

Seed fallibility from reason's flower?

Or do I find it yet in my own mind,

And claim my actions His decided way?

For whither shall we go to serve mankind,

And whence shall come the orders to obey?

By human flesh was God himself revealed,

In mortal minds divine intent be sealed.
