The Musical Salvationist

Three fingers on brass in the depths of the low notes,
Then both hands exploring the fullest range of the keyboard
Emptying himself of the music within:
A song without words expressing what's felt,
Bringing sounds of comfort and pointing to a better way,
A sacred giving back to the giver of all:
Down to earth but meant for heaven
Dealing with the worst; always wanting the best
Until it's time for the finale, no embellished scherzo
But a gentle largo, slowing down, fading into silence.
So back to the brass valves, those sonorous bass notes
Calling from the depths: David .... David
And we're left with nothing but memories echoing,
In the rustle of trees, the call of the dove.
