Light of the World

The spaniel knows the place The Hay Wain
Where the wagon fords the stream;
The driver beckoning onwards
Drawing the eye to sunlit walls
Reflecting rays which disappear
Into distant clouds tinted
With snow from another light,
Radiating in a myriad directions -
Eternal source for a world
Of combined cameos incarnate,
Dispelling the shadows of the valley
And possessing creation’s beauty
As the workers move forward
Continuing life’s journey.

After reading Isaiah 9 on the first Sunday in Advent, and with thoughts of the multiple sources of light and cameos in Constable’s painting: ‘The Hay Wain’
