Samba Signals
- Details
- Written August 2010
The band heads the carnival down Main Street
Synchronising Sao Paolo with Surrey Hills
As the leader lifts a hand in semaphore
Signalling syncopation down the line.
Carriages ready on the rail track
With a crack over joints and points
In a bombardment of bionic percussion
Sending messages up deadened nerves
Stirring the paralysed child into action
As the signal goes red with a hand on the head
And there’s a whistle down the platform
Evoking drum rolls and triple rhythm replies
Suggesting it’s all about to end
While he gives the victory salute.
