Discovering Chi

Go gently into the unknown of tomorrow
Filling the space with thoughts of today.
Peonies planted in dampened earth
Alongside a fountain that flows again,
Dead heads plucked to allow buds to bloom
And weeds uprooted to make space for what's better.
A pheasant's feather or a weasel's hair
Transferring colours from the ink-stone of life
Stroking upwards on pressed bamboo
With a dab and a daub, a line and a dot
Leaving emptiness for imagination's play
Which others share with a joy that's been ours
So that we become one in heart and mind
With the energy that extends beyond us.
