The Scientist's Handshake

He sees energy in the fingertips
Using what's there to make a world beyond,
Galaxies beyond orbits circling each other
But connected to us by that self-same finger:
Touching, creating, fashioning, making,
Until humankind emerges on the ceiling
Of the conclave of choice,

Where Holy fathers find consensus
With divine energy uniting deliberation,
While we simply say hello,
With the simple handshake of friendship
Outlasting their moment in time,
Energised even as we say goodbye:
Till we meet again - and again.

To a nuclear scientist who visualises a transfer of energy taking place on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
