The Topiaries

Tread gently on mother earth
Giving birth to a network of life
Concealed in the underground womb:
A pregnancy of darkness poised,
Ready for what's to come,
But vulnerable and weak,
Fragile with mycelial elements
Connecting one to another,
Messaging warnings and of signs of hope.
Until heavy footsteps disturb it all
And hands wrench it away
From where it was meant to wait
Until its time had come,
But now damaged beyond repair.

Another response to warnings of potential damage to the root systems of the topiaries at Hall Place Gardens.
