Assassination

The storm won't still when she takes her seat
Mitre and crook set aside
Near the spot where a king killed his bishop,
Others martyred for what they believed.
But now as arguments rage and loyalties tested
They're willing to stab the one they should follow
As a church divides itself into destruction.

Outside the boughs creak and the leaves fall
The bulbs stir and what seemed finished
Slowly comes to life bursting with colour
Petals glowing with fresh brilliance
Brightening with springtime glory
Ignorant of the storm inside.
Where the leaders pray together saying: Lord have mercy.
