Them and Us

The wolves of the sea bark,
Surprising us at every corner
Showing us something different
In the ever-changing scenes of life,
While the sea-otters balance
Back-stroke with feeding a pup
Who also has to learn to gorge
For survival with those well-covered.

We trudge through their world,
Observing with enjoyment,
Yet hardly recognising that we belong
Together in the world we share,
Until evening reflections double joys
With screening of the day's memories.

Early Spanish explorers gave the name lobos (wolves) to sea lions.
Sea otters have no blubber, and have to eat 25% of their body-weight daily.
