Driving through New Amsterdam
And another Sweden,
Leaving the haunts of the Lenape behind,
Driven by the search for a promised land,
Zig-zagging through Broadway to prosperity,
The departed turn in their graves a long way away
Feeling the sadness of knowing other’s gladness,
Deceived by deception,
Killing in abundance, yet desiring more,
Going from pillar to post past a walled street,
Leaving beavers also mourning their loss:
A Walloon in ole New York,
And loving it.
